About Calcmemo
Calculators and explanations for Korean units, dates, bills and taxes.
An 84㎡ apartment is 25.41 pyeong by direct conversion, but it is commonly advertised as a “32-pyeong” home. A Korean age can mean three different figures. Calcmemo explains which area or age system each figure represents.
The English section currently has 10 calculators, written for people dealing with Korean units, bills, contracts, and public rules in English. The explanations cover Korean terms and the rules behind each result.
How calculations are checked
Calculation functions have automated regression tests, including boundary cases where people commonly make mistakes: fee bands, progressive electricity tiers, leap days, age transitions, and statutory minimums and maximums.
Where a result depends on a law, tariff, or annual rate, the page names its basis, links to the issuing authority, states when the implementation was last compared with that source, and describes cases the calculator does not decide.
A check date is not a guarantee that an authority has made no later change. For a filing, contract, benefit claim, or other consequential decision, follow the responsible authority's current determination.
English explanations of Korean rules
The English pages and the Korean pages answer different questions, so they are written separately. The English pages introduce terms such as pyeong and the electricity tariff tiers. Someone who has just signed their first lease here needs the convention itself spelled out before comparing exceptions.
The English and Korean pages share calculation functions. Links between corresponding pages let readers compare the terminology and explanations.
English pages are added when their explanations are ready. Calculators without an English page remain available in the Korean section.
What this site will not calculate
Each calculator uses a stated formula or rule. The available inputs do not cover every personal or institutional condition.
- Eligibility. Whether a visa, a benefit, or a deduction applies to you is a decision an office makes on your file, not a formula.
- House rules. Severance formulas, allowances and leave policies vary by employer above the statutory floor, so the statutory calculation may differ from an employer’s policy.
- Market prices. This site does not provide live exchange rates or market prices.
- Rules of thumb. Where a calculation can only estimate a range, the page identifies it as an estimate.
Each page lists exclusions, such as discounts that a utility must confirm or tax classifications that the local authority must determine.
Who runs it
Calcmemo is built, maintained, and source-checked by one operator. The site started in August 2026.
The operator does not claim to be a lawyer, tax adviser, accountant, benefits officer, or medical professional. The site documents its sources and limitations so readers can check the work; it does not replace advice or an official decision.
Corrections are the priority. If a result, explanation, source, or check date looks wrong, email help@calcmemo.com with the page, inputs, result, and source you believe applies. See the contact page for details.
